A panel discussion on Ava DuVernay's documentary film "13th" as part of the Women's History Month Women Take the Reel Film Festival.

This annual film festival is a collaborative effort among Women's and Gender Studies departments involved in the Consortium for Graduate Studies in Gender, Culture, Women, and Sexuality (as well as select institutions/universities aligned with its mission) that features films directed by women and about issues relating to gender, race, sexuality, class and/or feminism.

The focus is on intellectual investigation of these issues as well as visibility for female directors, and so every film is accompanied by a Q&A and discussion with either the film director, producer, or a faculty member from the film screening's host institution host institution.

Panelists:
Jenn Jackson (Assistant Professor of Political Science, Syracuse University),
Black and Pink (United States prison abolitionist organization supporting LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive prisoners),
Carla Shedd (Associate Professor of Sociology and Urban Education, The Graduate Center, City University of New York)
Moderator TBD

You can watch the film 13th on your own time before the panel, or join the screening on March 20 at 7:00 pm Eastern.

Due to covid-19, this year our partnering schools are collaborating to show and discuss just two films virtually. You can watch the films anytime on your own, or join a screening. Either way, all are welcome to join the panels!
