In this workshop, participants will apply the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript concepts learned in the previous three sessions of the Web Intensive Series to performing basic tasks in D3.js, a popular JavaScript library for creating static and interactive web-based data visualizations. As an introductory workshop, the session will provide a high-level overview of several fundamental concepts and practices in D3, such as data structures, binding data to elements, syntax conventions, and basic interactivity. By the end, participants will be able to create 1 or 2 basic charts/graphs with simple interactivity. When registering for this session, a basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is required; some familiarity with D3.js or other JavaScript libraries is extremely helpful but not required. To participate, attendees are asked to create a free account on JSFiddle (http://jsfiddle.net/) to follow along.

Interested in learning more about web development technologies? This workshop is the final part of the Web Intensive Series, a 4-part sequence of introductory tutorials that cover basic principles and concepts in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and D3.js. Content covered in this session builds upon content in other tutorials in the series; however, participants are not required to attend all sessions in sequence.
