The NU Writing Center is thrilled to sponsor this writing workshop March 7-11 for NU faculty, staff, students, and the community at large. Workshops are free, open to the public, and welcome writers of all levels and disciplines.

Description: Ezra Pound describes the image as "an intellectual and emotional complex in an instant of time." Image is more than what the eye sees. In poetry, the most resonant and memorable images evoke the senses, and are heightened by musicality, voice, and lineation. In this one week asynchronous poetry workshop, we will read poems and essays that inform, inspire, and challenge our ideas on the poetic image and generate new work from writing prompts. At the end of the week, the group will be invited to share and discuss their work in an online workshop setting.

Facilitator bio: Jessica Abughattas’s debut poetry collection, Strip, won the 2020 Etel Adnan Poetry Prize selected by Fady Joudah and Hayan Charara. She is a Kundiman fellow and a graduate of the Antioch University Los Angeles MFA in Creative Writing. Her poems have appeared in The Rumpus, The Adroit Journal, Tupelo Quarterly, Lit Hub, Waxwing, BOAAT, and other places. She lives in Los Angeles.
