Rachel Kadish is an award-winning novelist and, the English Department's Fall Visiting Distinguished Writer.
No less a figure than the late Toni Morrison called her "a gifted writer, astonishingly adept at nuance, narration, and the politics of passion."
Kadish received a 2017 National Jewish Book Award for The Weight of Ink, a historical novel.
“Set in London of the 1660s and of the early twenty-first century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city; and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history.”
Kadish is the author of two other books, Tolstoy Lied, and From a Sealed Room. You can read some more of her writing here at her website. Copies of The Weight of Ink can be picked up in the English Department office by emailing Sarah Green (sa.green@northeastern.edu) for more details.
