The Center for International Affairs and World Cultures is hosting its inaugural Leaders in Foreign Service Speaker Series event on Tuesday, April 16th at 5pm-6:15pm featuring Karen Donfried. The event is in 909 Renaissance Park.

Here is a short bio:

Dr. Karen Donfried is a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard's Kennedy School.  She served as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs from 2021-2023, a tenure marked by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.  She also served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council in 2013 and 2014, when Russia illegally annexed Crimea, and as National Intelligence Officer for Europe on the National Intelligence Council in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence from 2011-2013.  Between these assignments in the Obama and Biden Administrations, she was president of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, headquartered in DC with seven offices across Europe.

The event is a moderated discussion followed by a Q&A from the audience. The event will be centered around key issues in diplomacy for the US in the European/Eurasian regions, and then a discussion on Karen’s career path.
