EEMB3450 Physiological Adaptations to the Environment
Focuses on the evolutionary mechanisms and processes by which organisms adapt physiologically to the diverse, often seemingly "hostile," habitats found on planet Earth. Topics include adaptation of cellular metabolism and its regulation, adaptations to the presence and absence of oxygen, the roles of water and microsolutes in regulation of the internal environment of cells, and the eects of temperature - high vs. low, variable vs. constant - on cellular function and the biogeographic distribution of organisms.
