Title: An Architecture for Gesture Based Apps

Abstract

Most user interfaces for applications (since the development of GUIs) use the mouse in very limited ways, primarily point and click and some dragging.  Professor Eller will discuss his Reaction architecture that uses shape recognition on the mouse (or finger) strokes in order to enable the development of gesture based applications.

About the Speaker

Marlin Jay Eller is a Part-Time Lecturer in the College of Computer and Information Science at Northeastern University’s Seattle campus.  Marlin earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Mathematics at Whitman College and his Master’s Degree in Mathematics from the University of Washington.  Marlin’s research area includes Programming Languages.

He is a native of Pasadena, California. Before coming to Northeastern, Marlin worked at Microsoft, where he managed software development projects for 13 years.  He will be teaching Discrete Math and Introduction to C Programming, and he looks forward to teaching students the ins and outs of programming.
