DESCRIPTION:New England Conservatory’s (NEC) Ravos Quartet will hold a pe
 rformance and “open” rehearsal on Thursday\, February 1\, 2018\, from 
 6:00 to 7:00 pm\, at Northeastern University School of Law. Comprised of c
 urrent NEC students\, the Ravos Quartet performs celebrated works of the c
 lassical string quartet repertoire and champions music by living composers
 \; its performance at Northeastern has been orchestrated by the Community 
 Performances and Partnerships Department at NEC. The rehearsal will be fol
 lowed by a conversation and Q&A\, providing the audience with an inside gl
 impse of how the members rehearse\, discuss musical ideas and negotiate co
 nflict within a string quartet.\n\nHailing from four countries across the 
 world\, the members of the Ravos Quartet first met at the Ravinia Steans I
 nstitute and Taos School of Music and then officially came together in the
  fall of 2016 at the New England Conservatory (NEC). Within the first few 
 months of their formation\, they garnered attention as an NEC Honors Ensem
 ble. Members of the Ravos Quartet have been featured on NPR’s From the T
 op\, at the Fischoff and Primrose Competitions\, and have studied at the C
 urtis Institute\, the Colburn School\, the Central Conservatory in Beijing
  and Harvard University. The name “Ravos” is derived from a combinatio
 n of Ravinia and Taos\, and it also carries the meaning “to delight” o
 r “to enchant.” The ensemble seeks to perform works that not only deli
 ght audiences\, but also showcase the group’s whimsical personality.\n\n
 This event will be held in the lower-level commons in Dockser Hall at 65 F
 orsyth Street\, Boston. It is free and open to the public.
