About this Event
Minneapolis-based artist Monica Haller will present the multi-year project Listening to the Mississippi. The ever-evolving and socially-engaged art piece uses hydrophones to collect sonic data documenting the diverse ecologies and uses of the Mississippi from the headwaters to New Orleans. These recordings are then used in original musical compositions that present a real-and-imagined version of this key cultural and environmental landmark of the United States.
In the present iteration of Listening to the Mississippi, prepared for Mississippi: An Anthropocene River, composers Michi Wiancko and Judd Greenstein take listeners on a journey down the river, blending original composed music with the sounds gathered above. On an earlier iteration, Art + Design Assistant Professor, Adriana Knouf, was a collaborator.
Please RSVP on our website by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, in order to receive the Zoom access information.
