Join us for an exciting lecture and art demonstration by the Inaugural Africana Studies Scholar in Residence, Dr. Ashon Crawley.

Dr. Crawley is a professor of religious studies and African American and African studies at University of Virginia. His research and teaching are in Black Studies, Performance Theory and Sound Studies, Philosophy and Theology, Black Feminist and Queer theories. Dr. Crawley is a teacher, writer, and audiovisual artist, attempting to honor blackqueer life and spirituality. His work, from writing to performance, is about the blackqueerness and spirituality, mysticism and relation. He is the author of Blackpentecostal Breath: The Aesthetics of Possibility (Fordham University Press, 2016) and the lonely letters (Duke University Press, 2020).
