Join the Lingusitics Program for a talk from Prof. Buker titled “In Your Own Words: Problematizing Black English in the American Criminal Justice System.” The talk will focus on the intersection of Forensic Linguistics and Sociolinguistics in the context of how Black Language and other minority language varieties are treated in the American Justice system. Specifically, she’ll speak about her own research looking at the testimony of witness Rachel Jeantel in the trial for the State of Florida v. George Zimmerman.
