ENVR1120 Oceans and Coasts
The course will include discussions of current issues in our ocean and atmosphere, and visits to nearby sites to explore local coastlines and organisms. Focuses on the evolutionary mechanisms and processes by which organisms adapt physiologically to the diverse, often seemingly "hostile," habitats found on planet Earth. Topics include adaptation of cellular metabolism and its regulation, adaptations to the presence and absence of oxygen, the roles of water and microsolutes in regulation of the internal environment of cells, and the effects of temperature - high vs. low, variable vs. constant - on cellular function and the biogeographic distribution of organisms.
