About this Event
Intersections of Ableism
A panel of Northeastern alumni and colleagues discusses misconceptions of Deafness and disability in society as well as efforts to address these misconceptions, unpacking concepts of ableism and audism from an intersectional lens.
The panelists will tackle questions such as these with the audience:
-- What barriers to educational and economic equity impact Deaf and Disabled individuals in society and how can these be addressed through disability rights activism, policy, and law?
--How can our communities better understand and address microaggressions and systems of oppression based on ableism, audism, and racism, given their complex interconnections?
--How can individuals and societies reframe Deafness and Disability from a social model rather than a medical model?
This event will be in ASL and English, with ASL/English interpreting and English captions provided.
