Join us for a 2-day event to learn about the latest in research and monitoring of metro Boston coastal ecosystems. The event will include field trips and a science cafe (April 11) and panels, breakout sessions, keynote presentations, and lightning talks (April 12). The event will focus on:

What we study

  • Water quality (status and trends, emerging contaminants)
  • Diversity of species and habitats (e.g., status and trends, marine invasives, beach as a habitat, etc.)
  • Coastal processes (e.g., erosion, sea level rise)
  • Ecological resilience (e.g., documenting or predicting species/habitat responses to ecosystem change)

How we study

  • Innovations in research methodology (e.g., remote sensing)
  • Connecting research to management (e.g., examples of research impacting policy, highlighting research/data needs)
  • Public involvement in research and monitoring (e.g., citizen science, successes, challenges, opportunities)

The event is co-sponsored by the Boston Harbor Habitat Coalition - which Northeastern University coordinates - and the National Parks of Boston. Other members of the planning committee include the Massachusetts Bays National Estuary Program, University of Massachusetts Boston, Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, US Environmental Protection Agency, and the New England Aquarium.
