Join the Department of Political Science at our Presidents' Day Lecture: “A Faithful President: The Founders vs. the Originalists," featuring Professor Jed Handelsman Shugerman from the Boston University School of Law 2026. 

 

Jed Handelsman Shugerman is the Harry Elwood Warren Scholar and Professor of Law at Boston University School of Law, where he joined the faculty in 2023. Shugerman is the author of The People’s Courts, a book tracing the rise of judicial elections, judicial review, and the influence of money and parties in American courts, and it is based on his dissertation that won the 2009 Cromwell Prize from the American Society for Legal History. He is currently working on two books on the history of executive power and prosecution in America, both of which were shaped by his experience with clinical death penalty defense work and prisoners’ rights litigation. He earned his B.A. in History from Yale College, his J.D. from Yale Law School, and his PhD in History from Yale University.
