Women's Community of Code for Girls: Program a Ghost Story with Alice

Title: Women's Community of Code for Girls: Program a Ghost Story with Alice.AbstractJoin us on this Halloween weekend to write some spooky code! We’ll use the Alice programming language to learn about object-oriented programming -- and to program a cool, 3D animated ghost story! Our workshops are always free and beginner-friendly, and you don’t need any technical knowledge to get started with coding. This workshop welcomes girls ages 10-16. We intend an inclusive definition of girls. We are welcoming and respectful of trans girls and any others who identify as a girl in a way that is significant to them.Guest Speaker: Amy Lashley, software engineer and Girls Who Code instructor.About Women’s Community of CodeWomen’s Community of Code is a collaboration between Dr. Laney Strange and Dr. Ben Hescott of Northeastern University. Laney and Ben are computer science professors strongly committed to making computer science accessible to everyone. We’re excited to bring coding to more women and girls in the Boston area!At these workshops, Laney and Ben conduct a fun a interactive learning experience that includes an introduction to computer programming, hands-on coding assignments, and usually a pretty awesome project you can keep working on forever, as computer scientists tend to do.Our workshops are beginner friendly and free to participate. We heartily welcome questions, comments, and feedback: reach out to laneys@northeastern.edu, (415) 559-2759 with any of the above.[gravityform id="159" title="false" description="true"]
