Women's Community of Code: Data Visualization

LocationWest Village H 210AbstractThis hands-on computer science workshop is all about working with data. In 2019, there are more web pages, images, Tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram stories, and public- and private-sector data than ever before. But data is meaningless until we transform into something accessible and understandable — that’s where data visualization comes in. In this workshop, we’ll learn about data visualization techniques to process, analyze, and communicate datasets. This is a practical workshop, too, so we’ll develop computer software using the Python programming language to create our visualizations. This workshop welcomes women ages 18 and over. We intend an inclusive definition of women. We are welcoming and respectful of trans women and any others who identify as a woman in a way that is significant to them.About Women’s Community of CodeWomen’s Community of Code is a collaboration between Dr. Laney Strange and Dr. Ben Hescott of Northeastern University. Laney and Ben are computer science professors strongly committed to making computer science accessible to everyone. We’re excited to bring coding to more women and girls in the Boston area!At these workshops, Laney conducts a fun and interactive learning experience that includes an introduction to computer programming, hands-on coding assignments, and usually a pretty awesome project you can keep working on forever, as computer scientists tend to do.Women's Community of Code is open to all women over age 18. Our workshops are beginner friendly and free to participate. We heartily welcome questions, comments, and feedback: reach out to laneys@northeastern.edu, (415) 559-2759 with any of the above.Register Now!
