An opportunity to learn about campus-wide sustainability initiatives & progress
The Symposium will cover the following topics:
School of Law, Student Affairs, Academic and Student Affairs
free
Facilities, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Dining Services, SGA & HEAT.
Overall I thought that the Symposium was a success. The members of the panel were able to explain the projects that they were involved in on and off campus as well as past and present. Also the power point slides that they prepared were well organized and easy to understand. There were also aspects of the event that could have been handled better. I thought that there could have been more promotion of the event beforehand to encourage increased participation by the student body. Lastly I wish the event was recorded so that people who did not have the ability to attend were still able to learn about some of the great sustainability initiatives that the students, faculty, and staff here at NU are working on.

I feel like the intent is there for an institution dedicated to sustainability - however, I still see a large divide in the initiatives discussed at the Symposium. Someone actually said that NEU is targeting "low-hanging fruit" which is not necessarily motivating or inspiring to the rest of the student body that was present. Small but calculated changes should be outlined, and I think these targets are ones that should be highlighted in future presentations so that as a university, NEU understands where we are going to become a sustainable university.
