On Tuesday, October 15th, Our Marathon: The Boston Bombing Digital Archive will mark the six-month anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings with a special exhibit on the first floor of Northeastern University’s Snell Library. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

Our Marathon is a crowd-sourced digital archive of stories, photos, video, and social media related to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings and its aftermath. The exhibit will highlight some of the thousands of submissions Our Marathon has received since May of 2013. Members of the Our Marathon team will be on hand to help visitors share their stories with our digital archive. We will also have a room reserved for people who would like to share their stories on film.

In addition to highlighting the digital items gathered by Our Marathon, our exhibit will also display several physical artifacts from the 2013 Boston Marathon and its aftermath, items graciously donated to us by The Boston City Archives and The Boston Medical Center.

No story is too small for Our Marathon. October 15th will be a day for many of us to reflect on where we were on April 15th, 2013, and where we are now, six months later. We believe that sharing stories from survivors, families, witnesses, visitors to the city, and everyone around the world touched by the event will speed the healing process. We also believe that a digital archive of these stories will preserve these stories for future generations, allowing them to see how so many of us experienced the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

Our Marathon: The Boston Bombing Digital Archive is a project of Northeastern University’s NULab for Maps, Texts, and Networks. Our partners include WBUR: Boston’s NPR News Station, Channel 5 Boston (WCVB-TV), and The Boston Globe’s Globe Lab, as well as institutions including The Digital Public Library of America and The Internet Archive.
