Min Jin Lee's award-winning novel Pachinko (New York Time's top ten books of 2017 and a National Book Award Finalist) follows four generations of one Korean family in exile from its homeland. Never fully accepted in Japan (where Koreans cannot be citizens), the family is also not quite "really" Korean. In charting this family's 20th-Century story, Lee illuminates issues that remain pressing in the 21st, including immigration, assimilation, and what it means to "have" or "belong to" a nation.
