Neighborhood Matters will celebrate Melnea Cass Day by hosting the National Parks of Boston's presentation, Melnea Cass: Doing Small Things in a Great Way.

Cass, nicknamed "The First Lady of Roxbury," was a powerful community acitivist in Roxbury and Boston. In her life she served as a leader in local and national social justice organizations and women's clubs and effected great change in the Boston area.

Join to discuss the nature of community activism, the life of Melnea Cass, and the influence of her mother-in-law Rosa Brown on her journey as a community activist.

The Archives and Special Collections will also be displaying Melnea Cass's papers as a part of the celebration of her legacy. In light of the presence of these historic documents, no food or drink are allowed in the venue.
