Leveraging Students' Motivations in Designing Learning Experiences: Research and Practice

Students’ motivations and emotions have been linked to a variety of cognitive and non-cognitive outcomes, including performance, participation, creativity, critical thinking, and self-regulation. In this workshop, explore how our mental models for student classroom motivations shape our understanding of and beliefs about students’ motivational attitudes in our learning environments. Participants in this workshop will come away with an understanding of how to design learning experiences with intrinsic motivation as a developmental end point and how doing so may create both productive dissonances and destructive harmonies in their learning environments. Lunch will be provided.
