"From Immigration History to Mobility Studies"

Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 5:15pm

West Village G, 102

This is part of the Northeastern University Department of History's Global History Seminar Series.

Donna Gabaccia, Professor of History, University of Minnesota, will give a lecture titled "From Immigration History to Mobility Studies."

Since 2008, the Northeastern University History Department has been hosting the Global History Seminar Series. The Seminar invites prominent scholars from around the world whose research employs cutting edge methods and focuses on issues of global reach. These scholars discuss their work with faculty and students. Highlights from past years include such topics as genealogies of civil war (David Armitage), world empires in comparison (Jane Burbank and Fred Cooper), the African-American civil rights struggle in Europe (Martin Klimke), and eroticism and colonial power (Philippa Levine). A list of past speakers and topics is available on our website by academic calendar year. This year, Heather Streets-Salter, our Director of World History Program, is coordinating the series. Leading scholars will speak to themes ranging from global trade and networks of empire to emerging trends in migration studies and the new political landscape after the Arab Spring.
