American Small Talk for International Students
This workshop is co-sponsored by Global Student Success and Employer Engagement and Career Design.
You might think small talk is a waste of time, but nothing could be further from the truth. Learning the art of American small talk will build your confidence, help you bond with strangers, and most of all, make them remember you. This workshop is designed to help international students improve their small talk skills. By the end of the workshop, each student will be able to approach more social and networking settings with more confidence.
It will cover appropriate and inappropriate discussion topics and strategies for using conversations to build friendships, working relationships, and professional networks.
This program connects to the SAIL domain Global Mindset using intercultural competency skills, and to Personal and Professional Effectiveness using strategic thinking, networking, and communication skills.
